Transforming Data into Action:
The Development of the Session Chat

An AI-driven behavioral genomics stealth start-up transforms genetic data into actionable insights for self-optimization through personalized reports tailored to each individual’s potential.

Users purchase a DNA test online, complete it at home, and send it back for analysis. Within three weeks, they receive detailed reports organized into life tiers such as fitness, nutrition, career, and longevity.

These reports are designed to empower users to enhance key aspects of their lives—such as fitness, mental strength, health, and productivity—by leveraging their unique genetic traits to make informed and impactful decisions.

This case study showcases my role as a product designer reimagining complex, data-heavy reports into intuitive, user-friendly tools that drive meaningful outcomes.

Research:
Effective Card UI for User Engagement

Understanding that the goal was to use data and insights to guide users toward valuable actions, I decided to leverage a card UI component. Cards provided a structured way to present all relevant information and data clearly, with an integrated call-to-action to encourage user engagement.

To refine this approach, I conducted research into various types of card-based UI components.

This included analyzing how different designs organize content, prioritize information hierarchy, and incorporate CTAs.

I explored a range of styles, from minimalist data-focused cards to visually rich, action-oriented designs, identifying the key elements that make cards effective for driving user interactions.

This research led to creating a card system optimized for key engagement and action KPIs, striking a balance between clarity, user engagement, and actionable results.

Transforming Insights into Action

The objective of this case study was to redesign the reports user experience by creating a dynamic flow that bridges data and actionable insights

To transform the reports into actionable tools, I focused on creating a user flow that balanced depth and usability.

Chatbot Engagement Challenges

Interactions with the system’s regular chatbot failed to drive meaningful follow-ups, emphasizing the need for a more engaging and action-oriented user experience.

The issue stemmed from the chatbot’s design, which focused on providing answers based on DNA traits rather than fostering meaningful conversations.

Users would pose questions, and the AI would respond with large amounts of data and information about various traits without diving deeper into the user’s specific concerns or delivering quality, actionable outcomes tailored to their needs.

Bridging Data and Actionable Insights

The goal was to present the genetic information with context to personalized insights and introduce an interactive 15-minute session, allowing users to explore tailored questions and engage deeply with their genetic potential. This approach aimed to foster meaningful interactions and deliver practical solutions aligned with users’ real-world needs.

Data, Insights and CTA Integration Card:

Each report was redesigned to present raw genetic data with personalized insights.

The challenge in providing meaningful, actionable solutions stemmed from the AI lacking sufficient information to craft a truly deep and personalized response.

To address this, the card’s call to action encouraged users to start a 15-minute session. This session allowed the AI to gather detailed information and gain a deeper understanding of the issue and the user, enabling it to deliver high-quality, tailored solutions.

Users struggled to extract value from data-heavy reports.

Despite the depth of information provided by the genetic reports, users often found them overwhelming and challenging to translate into actionable steps.

User research, behavioral analysis, and usability testing uncovered a critical pain point: users struggled to perceive long-term value from the reports, leading to disengagement after the initial read.
